On queue, the park ranger drops some soap in as a catalyst to kick off the eruption..
Wai-o-Tapu was magnificent with silica terraces, steaming fumaroles and the Champagne Pool which is just beautiful. Once again the NZ countryside is stunning, and makes driving a pleasure.
We spent the best part of the day here exploring around the various thermal pools and boiling mud, but eventually had to make our way to Taupo.
We visited Huka Falls, with it's amazing foamy turquoise water, and I stocked up on local flies and had a go at fishing in the Waitahanui River. Passing the Lava Glass Cafe we dropped into get coffee and scones, but were unfortunately too late. We settled for dinner at the Mole & Chicken, which had the best lamb shanks!
