After a visit to the visitor centre, we went to Aratiatia Rapids, and watched the flood gates open and the rapids come to life. That was a pretty amazing experience seeing the river slowly fill to a tumultuous torrent after the flood sirens had sounded.
Breakfast was at the Lava Glass Cafe where I had the BEST.EVER.SCONES in the world. They were amazing. I would make the trip back to NZ just for these scones. And coffee. Ever since arriving in NZ I've been asked, Chocolate or Cinnamon on my cappuccino. So I finally went the cinnamon.
Following breakfast, we went for a fantastic jet boat ride on the Waikato River. Soaked right through; we had an awesome time.
The afternoon started with a quick fish then we were off to Orakei Korako to see more bubbling mud, steaming pools and geysers.
Later in the afternoon I went for a quick walk around the Craters of the Moon because I hadn't yet seen enough steam coming out of the ground. i jut made it back to the part exit before closing time.
I managed to squeeze some more fishing in before watching the sun set across Lake Taupo.
The call of the lamb shanks saw us dining again for a late dinner at the Mole & Chicken.
