Today we went on a cruise around the bay. It was overcast for most of the trip, but sunny skies came out towards the end. At least it didn't rain
We spent the morning cruising around the Bay of Islands, searching for dolphins unsuccessfully and getting close and personal with the scenery at the aptly named Hole in the Rock.
We had an entertaining commentary on the history of the bay from our awesome captain, and were dropped off in Russell for lunch at the Duke. They made a damn good burger and tasty fish & chips. Russell is a really nice town and we enjoyed walking around and exploring the little art shops. If we came back to the Bay of Islands, and why wouldn't we?? then we'd stay over on this side next time.
In the afternoon after our cruise, we drove to Kerikeri and visited the Stone Store and walked around Rewas Village, a reconstruction of a traditional Maori Village. Dinner was at Lips in Paihai, which we couldn't recommend. Maybe they were just having a bad night.
